# Project settings

Update project data, applicable codes, basis of design, and team access.

Project Settings control the project's core data, design assumptions, and access. Settings are editable by project admins only. It's the same modal used to create a project, with the title **Project Settings** instead of **New Project**.

***

## Accessing Project Settings

**From the Projects list:** Select the context menu (···) on a project tile → **Manage Project**.

**From the design environment:** Open the hamburger menu (≡) → **Project Settings**.

## Sections

### Project Details

| Field | Description |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Project Name | Free-text name |
| Building Type | Determines applicable baselines and type-specific behavior |
| Location | City, state, county, postal code — set via the map, used for code resolution |
| Size | Total conditioned area in ft² |

### Applicable Codes

Assign the project's **Plumbing** code — **IPC 2024** or **UPC 2024**. This code determines the fixture catalog and the fixture-unit values used in the [Plumbing](/workflows/plumbing-planning/plumbing-planning-overview.md) discipline; a code must be assigned before fixtures can be added.

> ⚠️ Changing the plumbing code **removes all fixtures** assigned to your spaces, because fixture-unit values are drawn from the selected code. The modal warns before you confirm.

Only the plumbing code is selectable at this stage — building, energy, mechanical, and electrical code selects are not yet active.

### Basis of Design

A grid of design assumptions held **per space type**, rather than one value for the whole project.

| Field | Unit | Description |
| -------------------- | ---------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Cooling Load Density | ft²/Ton | Square feet served per ton of cooling |
| Heating Load Density | BTU/h\*ft² | Heating load per square foot |

Change a value here and every space of that type picks it up. Individual spaces can override the value they inherit — see [Loads and Densities](/workflows/mechanical-planning/loads-and-densities.md).

### Access

Controls who can view and edit the project.

* Users listed here have access to the project.
* Admins can add users (from the user list) or remove them.
* Only admins can change project settings.

> Only project admins can make changes in this modal. Non-admin users can view but not edit.

## Saving

Select **Save** to apply changes. You'll see a **"Project saved successfully"** confirmation and changes take effect immediately.
