# Floors

Add, edit, replace, calibrate, and delete floor plans.

Floors hold floor plan images and the spaces drawn on them. A project can have multiple floors. Floors are managed from the **floor switcher** in the top nav bar (stairs icon), which lists the project's floors and the **Edit Floor**, **Create New Floor**, and **Delete Floor** actions.

## Adding floors

1. Open the **floor switcher** in the top nav bar and select **Create New Floor**. The **Add Floors** dialog opens.
2. Drag your floor plan into the upload zone, or browse to it. **PDF only, up to 50 MB.** Use **Replace** afterward if you picked the wrong file.
3. Choose a **Scale** — a standard architectural scale, or **Unknown** if you don't know it. Scale is imperial only; metric is not yet supported.
4. Name the floors and choose which pages to keep (see below).
5. Select **Add** — the button counts what you've selected, for example **Add 4 Floors**.

The floors appear in the floor switcher, and the canvas switches to the new floor. You'll see a confirmation naming how many floors were created.

If you chose **Unknown** for the scale, the dialog warns that you'll be prompted to calibrate after the floor plan is added.

## One PDF, one or many floors

Strata reads every page of the PDF you upload.

**Single-page PDF** — the dialog reports **Single-page Document** and creates one floor. Give it a name.

**Multi-page PDF** — the dialog reports **Multi-page Document** and shows a thumbnail per page. For each page you can:

* Include or exclude it — only included pages become floors
* Give it a floor name — every included page needs one before you can save

Select a thumbnail to open that page full-size for a closer look, and step through the set with the previous and next arrows. Collapse back to the thumbnails when you're done.

## Switching floors

Use the floor switcher in the top nav bar to change floors. The canvas updates to the selected floor and its spaces. Floors are listed in ascending order by name.

## Editing a floor

Open the floor switcher and select **Edit Floor**. Update the **Floor Name** or the **Scale**, then select **Save**. Changing the scale affects area calculations for every space on that floor — and for that floor's spaces in all three disciplines.

## Replacing a floor plan

Replacing a plan is part of **Edit Floor** — there's no separate dialog.

1. Open the floor switcher and select **Edit Floor**.
2. Upload a new PDF. The dialog switches to page selection and asks you to pick the page to use in place of the current plan.
3. Set the **Scale** and select **Save**.

Existing spaces stay in place — their positions are relative to the canvas, not the image — so verify placement against the new plan afterward.

> Floors created from a Revit model can't have their plan replaced. For those floors the upload option doesn't appear.

## Deleting a floor

Open the floor switcher and select **Delete Floor** → confirm.

> **Permanent action.** *"This will permanently delete this floor plan and all sources, zones, and spaces created on it — including everything in both the canvas and data views. This action cannot be undone."* Spaces on other floors are not affected.

## Scale calibration

If a floor plan's scale is **Unknown**, Project Strata prompts you to calibrate it in Canvas view before drawing. See [Canvas View — Scale Calibration](/workflows/workspace/canvas-view.md#scale-calibration).

## Importing a floor from a Revit model

If Revit import is enabled for your account, you can create a floor by importing a Revit model instead of uploading a PDF (**Import Revit Model**, from the start prompt or hamburger → File → Import). Model-based floors render to scale automatically and skip calibration, and their plan cannot be replaced.

> Revit model import is a limited-availability feature. If you don't see the option, it isn't enabled for your account yet.
